Traditional Building Technique

Our houses are built with pine logs carefully selected coming exclusively from the Quebec north forests renown for the quality of its wood; all this is done according to a traditional Scandinavian method. At wintertime, the cold is so intense that the wood comes to maturity only around 100 to 150 years. This slow growth gives to the wood a texture and an incomparable hardness, guaranty of reliability and refinement. We use the best tools and have the best technicians to build your house with a millimetric precision.

Each log used (grey pine, red pine or spruce) is a piece of a diameter varying from 9" (23 cm) to 15" (38 cm), precut, stripped mecanically or by hand, in which the stone wool insolation is packed into lateral grooves providing perfectly sealed joints. Not a single nail is used in the logs assembling.

We take great care of our work.

Two hours are needed to complete a log.  It's not possible to go faster if we are to build a real Scandinavian house, sturdy and with perfect fit joints.

Up to 6 to 7 weeks are needed to finish the constructrion on a 28' X 28' square.

Concerning the foundations, the owner has to take care of it . Regarding the assembling, it is the job of the team of Au Chalet en Bois Rond or of the owner himself.

We offer a basic kit including the structure , also a complete kit consisting of the material to finish off the house : the whole roof, gable, skylight, gallery, doors, windows and the inside of the house including the stairs, floors and divisions.

The Result : A sturdy and warm house withstanding the test of time.

Here is a wonderful occasion to relive the traditions in modern comfort
and to recall the quiet courage and the "joie de vivre" of our ancestors.

Our construction site is located near the gate in Rang Saint-Jacques.
